A night to remember

On the night of Saturday 5 December 2015, Cumbria and the UK shook under the unrelenting power of Storm Desmond. The rain came down, the rivers rose and floods of biblical proportions struck communities large and small across the region. On the morning of Sunday 6 December, weary Pooley Bridge residents emerged from their homes to assess the damage and take in the scale of the flooding. Around lunchtime, as we stood quietly surveying the flooded southern end of the village towards the lake, Pooley Bridge crumbled in front of our eyes. Our 250 year old lifeline to one side of the valley slipped into the raging waters below.
